Item Bidding process compliance and bid competitiveness. a case of Uganda National Roads Authority(Kyambogo University, 2021-05) Namawejje, RoseThe general objective of the study was to examine the effect of bidding process compliance on bid competitiveness in UNRA. The study specifically assessed how bidding document approval, invitation to bid and sale or issue of bidding document affect bid competitiveness in UNRA. The study used a case study design adopting quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study population included 107 respondents consisting of contracts committee, user departments and members of the PDU from the head office and the six regional offices in the country. 107 questionnaires were sent out to be filled but only 80 questionnaires were full-filled and retuned providing a response rate of 75%. The study findings revealed that bidding document approval, invitation to bid and sale or issue bidding document all predict 66.4% of the variance in bid competitiveness in UNRA. The study found out that bidding document approval, invitation to bid and sale or issue of bidding documents were significant predictors of the variance in bid competitiveness (β1= 0.451, t= 3.639, Sig. = 0.000), (β1= 0.072, t= 8.705, sig = 0.000) and (β1= 0.462, t= 4.963, Sig. = 0.000). To increase bid competitiveness the study recommends that UNRA should encourage both the staff directly linked to the bidding process at the head office and in regional offices to comply with the approved procedures stipulated in the PPDA Act 2003 as amended and the PPDA Regulations 2014 so as to make the process competitive in terms of increased number of potential bidders, lowering the procurement costs due to increased competition and access to new market developments provided by suppliers.Item Business process outsourcing and operational efficiency in the telecommunications industry in Uganda a case study of Airtel Uganda(Kyambogo University (un published work), 2018-12) Aturinda, JudithThis study overall objective was to examine the relationship between Business Process Outsourcing and Operational Efficiency at Airtel Uganda. The specific objectives related to assessing the relationship between business process outsourcing planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation and operational efficiency at Airtel Uganda. A cross sectional design adopting qualitative and quantitative approaches was used, the study population included 125 staff consisting of top management, middle management level, lower management level and service providers were interviewed. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. The study revealed a moderate positive significant relationship between business process outsourcing planning and Operational efficiency at Airtel Uganda represented by (R= 0.502**, P = 0.000). Secondly, the study further discovered a high positive significant relationship between business process outsourcing implementation, and Operational efficiency at Airtel Uganda represented by (R=0.805**, P = 0.000). Thirdly, the study discovered a high positive significant relationship between business process outsourcing Monitoring and evaluation and Operational efficiency at Airtel Uganda represented by (R=0.665**, P=0.000)To enhance operational efficiency of Airtel Uganda using BPO, the study recommends that the management of Airtel in its BPO planning should: f n its make and buy decision making conduct adequate cost evaluation on each activity to guide decision to outsource or keep in-house; In SLAs clearly define penalties for contract violations as disincentive for poor performance. To enhance operational efficiency of Airtel Uganda using BPO, the study recommends that the management of Airtel in its BPO implementation should: Solicit for more than one partner and subject them to venting process and award contracts for outsourcing based on best evaluated bidders at partner solicitation level. Strengthened partners ' relationship management through integrating technology with its partners for enhanced information sharing for outsourced activities. To enhance operational efficiency of Airtel Uganda using BPO, the study recommends that the management of Airtel in its BPO monitoring and evaluation should: .The responsible partnership managers and accounts department submit all the ·necessary accountability for timely payments that are based on fulfillment of performance expectations. Payment should be effected at least 30 days of invoicing or as provided for in the contract.Item Compliance with government and firm's own policy, reverse logistics practices and firm environmental performance(Emerald Publishing Limited, 2024-05-28) Kalubanga, Matthew; Mbekeka, WinfredAbstract Purpose This study examines how compliance with government and firm's own policy and reverse logistics practices relate with firm environmental performance. Design/methodology/approach This study draws on insights from stakeholder theory, and follows a two-phase research approach. The first phase utilized an extended literature review that seeks to provide a qualitative and comprehensive understanding of the research problem. The 2001–2023 data was collected from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, complemented with Google Scholar. The second phase involved an empirical study—adopting a quantitative cross-sectional survey design with a self-administered questionnaire to validate the theoretical conceptualizations deriving from the literature review. The empirical data were collected from 203 food and beverages manufacturing firms in Uganda and analysed using the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) approach.Item Contract management and procurement performance of local governments in Uganda: a case study of Bugiri district(Kyambogo University (unpublished work), 2016-12) Ampumuza, Gracious JeanThis study describes the influence of contract management on procurement performance of Local Governments in Uganda using Bugiri District as the case study. The three specific objectives of this study were to: examine the influence of contract creation on procurement performance; to assess the influence of contract execution on procurement performance and lastly, to determine the influence of contract analysis on procurement performance. The researcher employed a case study research design. Using a researcher' made five point Likert scale questionnaire, data was collected from a sample of respondents. Seventy (70) respondents out of a population of eighty (80) were elected using purposive and random sampling techniques (response rate of 94.3%). Data was analyzed using means and the regression analysis. Findings revealed that the extent of which contract creation predicts performance was low (r2 = .36. Sig. Value= 0.000): the extent to which contract execution influences procurement performance was low ( r~ -= .34. Sig. Value -=- 0.003) and lastly, the extent to which contract analysis influences procurement performance was moderate (r2 = .44, Sig. Value = 0.00 l ). On the other hand. findings revealed that contract management at Bugiri District local government in Uganda highly and positively influences procurement performance (R2= .779 Sig. Value= 0.000). This implies that where each of these variables; contract creation, execution and analysts are handled separately, each has a low influence on procurement performance. of However if handled wholesomely, results show that high procurement performance (78%) will be achieved. in light of this. the researcher therefore concludes that: practitioner . manager and civil servants at Bug1ri District should adopt a holistic approach in contract management, if procurement performance is to be maximized. The specific objectives of the study related to examining the relationship between contract implementation planning, supervision and variations management and road construction project performance in Soroti Municipal Council. A cross-sectional survey design using both quantitative and qualitative approaches was adopted. The study population included Soroti Municipal Council technical staff, elected leaders and contractor representatives. The study found a high positive and sign ificant relationship between contract implementation planning and USMID project performance (r = 0.691 **, p = 0.000). There was a high positive and significant relationship between contract supervision and USMID project performance (r = 0.751 ** and p = 0.000). There was a high positive and significant relationship between variations management and USMID project performance (r = 0.740** and significance p = 0.000). It was concluded that USMID project performance was dependent on how the projects management team undertakes to effectively carry out contract implementation planning, conduct contract supervision and manage cost and price variations during contract management. To enhance the present and future USMID World Bank project time, cost and quality performance, the study recommends that the municipal project management team and contractors should adequately conduct project resource planning, by identifying and availing the necessary construction equipment and laboratory fac ilities for testing quality of construction works; strengthen stakeholder management through active involvement and collaboration with technical, donor and political Municipal stakeholders in USMTD project implementation. On contract supervisions the projects should regularly convene progress review meetings, spot inspections with donor and Municipal political stakeholders. On management of contract variations, the project management team and contractors should promptly identify and resolve any project scope of works change, Bill of quantities, time and quality variations during contract performance; promptly identify and resolve any project cost variations arising from project scope, inflation, time and technical costs variations. The use of procurement legal provisions and industry standards could be sought for prompt project cost variations management.Item Contract management and service delivery in Public sector: a case of Uganda electricity transmission company(Kyambogo University [unpublished work], 2013-10) Mary, Ziribagwa MargaretContract management has become a core competency critical to an organization's competitive advantage. Recent studies had shown that organizations with established and mature contract management practices are able to generate millions of dollars in additional savings and have a competitive advantage over their competitors. This study looked at the impact of contract management on service delivery in public sector with a case study of Uganda Electricity Transmission Company (UETCL). Specifically the study reviewed contract management practices and how they influence the service delivery of public organizations. The researcher adapted a case study design using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The data was generated from questionnaires, interviews and review of available documents in line with contract management and service delivery. Data collected was analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient (PMCC) to make conclusions. The findings of the study indicated that the contract management practices that is contract mobilization, contract monitoring, performance management and contract completion were effectively managed in UETCL. The service levels were in place and finally it was established that contract monitoring and performance management had a positive significant relationship on service delivery. It was recommended that if service delivery is to be improved in public sector organizations, the policy makers and other stake holders should enhance the contract management practices through data collection systems to create access to contract information and clear benchmarks to check supplier performance based on contract terms. This can be achieved through establishing a performance management framework that would provide a contract management framework with agreed targets for the providers to meet.Item Contract management and service delivery in Uganda national bureau of standards(Kyambogo University(unpublished), 2014-12-30) Kamukama, FionaThe purpose of this study was to examine the influence of Contract management on Service delivery in UNBS. A self-administered Opened ended questionnaire was designed and was administered to a sample of 152 staff of UNBS from different regional offices however, out of the 152, 140 questionnaires were returned showing a 92.1% response rate. The study involved one of each variable; the independent, moderating and dependent variable. The independent variable; contract management measured in the aspects of contract monitoring, the level of stakeholder involvement and records management. The moderating variable; Corruption was measured using respondents opinions on practices viewed to subject unethical influence outside the procurement process. The dependent variable; service delivery was measured using the timeliness. The items capturing the constructs and consequently the variables were tagged to a five point likert ordinal scale which ranged from; Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree which points were coded one to five . That is 5 for Strongly Agree, 4 for Agree, 3 for Not Sure, 2 for Strongly Disagree and 1 for Strongly Disagree. A factor structure of contract management carried out showed stakeholder involvement as the most impot1ant factor followed by contract monitoring and lastly records management. A correlation analysis indicted a significant positive relationship between contract management and service delivery (r=0.354, p=0.01). Regression showed that contract management had a significant positive effect on service delivery of (Beta=0.4 78, P<0.1 ). The predictive power of contract management on service delivery was found to be 11.90% (Adjusted R Square=0.119). Descriptive statics were used for other factors that influence Service Delivery as well as recommendations for service delivery improvements. The other factors that influenced service delivery were established and Recommendations for service delivery improvements recommended. While the moderating variable test of corruption indicated no effect on the relationship between contract management and service delivery. In conclusion, the results obtained support the hypothesis that contract management has a positive effect on service delivery.Item Contract management and value for money in statutory government entities: a case study of Electoral Commission, Uganda(Kyambogo University (unpublished work), 2018-12) Nabwato, Veronica CarolineIn Uganda, the PPDA Act 2003 is the main reference for procurement law, regulations and guidelines. All statutory bodies are therefore under obligation to follow the PPDA Act 2003 throughout the procurement process which includes contracts management. However for many procurement audits conducted by public procurement and disposal of assets authority, it has been established that Electoral Commission (EC) procurement process still suffers contract management hitches like supply of substandard items, over blown cost of supplies, missing records of contract implementation plans and delayed payments to providers to mention but a few. The study set out to establish the effect of contract management on value for money at E.C. The researcher used mainly primary data from staff of Electoral Commission in Uganda. Sixty nine (69) respondents out of a population of eighty four (84) were selected using purposive sampling, stratified and random sampling techniques (response rate of 91.3%). Data was collected using closed ended questionnaires. Some interview questions were also used to back up the data from questionnaires. The findings obtained indicate that contract management E.C, Uganda highly and positively affects value for money (Adjusted R = 55.4%, Sig. Value= 0.000). In light of this, the researcher therefore concludes that, contract management strongly affects value for money, and that the findings of this research can act as a cornerstone for practitioners to appreciate the importance of contract management, and in particular appreciate the value of contract implementation plan, contract administration and contract monitoring if value for money is to be achieved.Item Critical success factors influencing the implementation of public private partnerships in the roads sector: a case of Uganda(Kyambogo University [unpublished work], 2022-11) Ajwang, PatriciaThe study sought to establish critical success factors influencing the implementation of PPPs in the roads sector in Uganda. The objectives of the study were to determine CSFs influencing the implementation of PPP road projects in Uganda, to establish a success criterion for PPP road projects that provide a mechanism for determining extent of success of a PPP road project and to examine the extent of influence of PPP CSF to the successful implementation of PPP road projects in Uganda. A cross-sectional survey design with a quantitative approach was adopted in this study. A sample size of 140 respondents out of a population of 226 respondents. 140 questionnaires were administered to collect quantitative data. 132 questionnaires were filled and returned constituting a response rate of 94%. Data was collected from the public and private sector; specially selected from institutions with PPP exposure in varied capacities. Tests for normality, validity and reliability of data were carried out. The findings of the study revealed that there is a moderate positive relationship (0.512**) between political factors and PPP success criteria and the relationship was statistically significant at 0.01 level of significance P-Value (0.000) < 0.01. This finding was also reinforced by the interviews conducted in which all respondents echoed political factors as being crucial to the success of PPP road projects. On the other hand, the study also revealed that there is a moderate positive (0.620**) relationship between managerial factors and PPP success criteria. Verbatim interviews also stressed managerial factors as being critical for PPP implementation with regard to project identification, skills and competence of PPP practitioners as well as contract management and control. The findings further revealed that the relationship was statistically significant at 0.01 level of significance P-Value (0.000) < 0.01. Lastly, there is a moderate positive relationship (0.556**) between economic factors and PPP implementation and the relationship was statistically significant at 0.01 level of significance P-Value (0.000) < 0.01. The study recommends that to ensure the successful implementation of PPPs in the roads sector, the procurement process should result into selection of a strong private consortium with strong technical strength. Similarly, strong contract management and control should be undertaken throughout the PPP project implementation. However, strong contract management and control can only be effective if the organization staff and transaction adviser are competent in their understanding of PPP mechanisms.Item Distribution management and quality of fresh food supplies in Uganda police force: a case of Kampala metropolitan police(Kyambogo University(Unpublished work), 2021-05) Natuhwera, GloriaThe general objective of the study was to examine the effect of distribution management on quality of fresh food supplies in Uganda Police Force at Metropolitan Police. The study specifically assessed the effect of transportation, storage and information flow in the UPF at Metropolitan police. The study used a case study design adopting quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study sample included 248 respondents consisting of police officers, quarter masters and mistresses and logistics officers. The study found a moderate positive and significant relationship between transportation and quality of fresh food supplies in UPF although it was the second most significant predictor of the variance in quality of fresh food supplies (r = 0.491**, p = 0.000, β1= 0.234, t= 2.200, Sig. = 0.029). There was a moderate positive significant relationship between storage and quality of fresh food supplies and it was not a significant predictor of the variance in quality of fresh food supplies (r = 0.478**, β1= 0.120, t= 1.103, sig = 0.271). Information flow had a moderate positive significant relationship with quality of fresh food supplies and it was the most significant predictor of the variance in quality of fresh food supplies (r = 0.517**, β1= 0.354, t= 3.805, Sig. = 0.000). The study recommended that UPF should procure vehicles with different temperature-insulated containers or other climate control solutions which are required in the transportation of fresh food supplies, UPF should take advantage of technology improvements in data capture and processing, product tracking and tracing, synchronized transport transit times for time compression along the supply chain, UPF should invest in fresh food cold chains, UPF should also adopt the FEFO ideology where the first expired should be the first to be issued out in order to reduce on the loss, UPF should budget for the construction of modern and efficient storage facilities, UPF should invest in technology, where appropriate, and become as efficient as possible in tracing and tracking the shelf life of these fresh food supplies and finally, UPF should draft a clear communication channel from the point of receipt by the quarter masters to the logistics personnel and also encourage constant feedback from the end consumers with the aim to reduce delays in deliveries and use feedback to improve on the quality of fresh food supplies.Item The effect of internal stakeholder management on procurement performance in statutory authorities. A case of national forestry authority.(Kyambogo University [unpublished work], 2014-12) Zaidi, ShainehThe main purpose of the study was to examine the influence of Internal Stakeholder management onto Procurement performance in NFA with three specific objectives which included examining the effect of Internal Stakeholder Involvement, Communication and Separation of roles on the Procurement Performance of NFA respectively. Using a case study design, data was collected using two methods; a self administered Open ended questionnaire which was designed and administered to a sample of 155 staff of NF A from different units and departments out of which 132 questionnaires were returned showing an 85.2% response rate and Interviews on three senior management staff. Validation and reliability tests to were performed on the data and found out that the data was both valid and reliable for analysis. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were run to analyze the data where a Pearson correlation analysis under inferential statistics was used to answer the specific objectives and also went ahead to check the extent to which the independent variables explained procurement performance using the adjusted R-squared from regression. The findings revealed that; there was a positive significant effect of Internal Stakeholder Involvement on procurement performance with the effect being stronger on Quality of goods and services (0.658) as compared to Timeliness (0.623) and Compliance (0.555) and that Internal Stakeholder Involvement also accounted for a greater proportion of over 42.9% changes in Quality of goods and services, there was a positive significant effect of Communication on Procurement performance with the effect being stronger on quality of goods and services (0.595) as compared to Timeliness (0.574) and compliance (0.544) and that Communication accounts for a greater proportion of over 34.9% changes in Timeliness and there was a significant positive effect of Separation of roles on procurement performance with the effect being stronger on Timeliness (0.748) and that Separation of roles accounts for a greater proportion of over 55.6% changes in Timeliness. From the findings, the researcher recommends that for NFA to improve on its procurement performance, there is need for it to take a critical review through including its internal stakeholder in all the procurement cycle stages, improve on Communication and should Separate the roles of its employees.Item Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and supply chain performance a case study of joint medical stores(Kyambogo University(Unpublished work), 2018-12) Adayo, DavidThe purpose of the study was to examine the effect of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems and Supply Chain Performance using JMS as the case study. Specifically the study undertook to examine the effect of Enterprise Resource Planning system configuration, implementation and evaluation on supply chain performance at Joint Medical Stores. The study used a case study design adopting qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data was collected from a sample of JMS staff who were pharmacists, PDU, warehouse, customer care and logistics staff. The study found a positive significant relationship between ERP and supply chain performance and it was the most significant predictor of the variance in supply chain performance. The study found a positive significant relationship between ERP system implementation and supply chain performance at JMS implying that ERP system implementation positively affect supply chain performance especially where the staff use the system to complete reliable upstream supply chain data, distribution process management, retail and e-commerce as well as for back office activities and it was the second most significant predictor of the variance in supply chain performance at JMS. There was no significant relationship between ERP system evaluation and supply chain performance. To enhance medical supply chain performance, the management of JMS and related firms should Task the ERP developer/vendor to adequately identify user needs and configure the ERP software to support upstream supply chain undertakings, and distribution process management activities at JMS; task the Vendor to strengthen the ERP system reliability to provide consistent, real time and up to date data on medical supplies; recruit more ERP specialists to offer internal technical expertise for promptly trouble shooting ERP system failures.Item Factors affecting implementation of reservation schemes and access to public procurement by small and medium enterprises in Uganda. a case study of kampala capital city authority(Kyambogo University[unpublished work], 2022-11) Atukwatse, BrendahThe overall aim of the study was to assess the factors affecting the implementation of Reservation Schemes in relation with access to public procurement contracts by prequalified SMEs in Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Uganda. The study was directed by these objectives: to examine the effect of professionalism in public procurement management, execution of procurement procedures, stakeholder training and access to information in relation with access to public procurement contracts by SMEs in KCCA. A case study research design was borrowed. It mainly engaged a quantitative approach including a qualitative approach. The population study comprised of 140 accomplices including Accounting Officer, User Departments and Evaluation Committees, Procurement and Disposal Unit Officers, Contracts Committee members and prequalified SMEs from which 97 respondents sample size was determined using Krejice and Morgan statistical table (1970). Simple and purposive sampling techniques were utilized in the study. The Quantitative data analysis largely entailed the descriptive statistics (mean, percentages and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (linear regression analysis and Pearson correlation coefficient). Content analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. Findings revealed that there was a significant and positive effect of professionalism in procurement management on access to public procurement contracts by prequalified SMEs (β=0.391, P-value<0.05). Secondly, there was a significant and positive effect of execution of procurement procedures on access to public procurement contracts by prequalified SMEs (β=0.496, P-value<0.05) and this proved to be the strongest predictor among the all the constructs included in the study. Thirdly, there was a significant and positive effect of stakeholder training on access to public procurement contracts by prequalified SMEs (β=0.450, P value< 0.05). Lastly, findings indicated that access to information had a positive and significant effect on access to public procurement contracts by prequalified SMEs (β=0.308, P-value<0.05). It was concluded that effective professionalism in public procurement management, execution of procurement procedures, Stakeholder training, and access to information are so important in enhancing access to public procurement contracts by SMEs in KCCA. Thus, it is recommended that there is a need for PDU officials at KCCA to demonstrate a high level of non-discrimination by promoting transparency in what is being done in the process of contracting out services to SMEs. Secondly, a primary decision needs to be always reached on what measures are applicable for the kind of acquisition involved and its value. Thirdly, PDU staff are able to make full use of the likelihood to accomplish framework agreements with a number of economic operators and to organize simple competitions for entities to the framework agreement as actual procurement needs arises. There is a need to ensure that payments are not postponed until the end of the year. This will enable failure of SMEs to meet payment deadlines. More so, use of electronic payment systems should be emphasized or promoted for easy payments. There is a need for PDU to ensure that payments are suspended with a valid reason and need for an independent public procurement training done for PDU staff at KCCA annually. Lastly, there is a need for Procurement and Disposal Unit Officers at KCCA to be trained in reservation scheme handling.Item Framework contracts management and procurement performance of higher institutions of learning: A case study of Makerere university business school(Kyambogo University[unpublished work], 2016-10) Anguzu, RonaldThe sought to examine the effect of framework contract management on procurement performance in Institutions of Higher learning and this study was carried out at MUBS.The objectives of the study were to; establish the extent to which planning for call-off orders affects procurement performance, examine how implementation of framework contracts influences procurement performance, assess the effect of framework contracts monitoring and evaluation on procurement performance at MUBS. A detailed review of literature on framework contracts and procurement performance was done. A case study research design was adopted for this study. 65 respondents were selected using stratified and purposive sampling techniques from Management and Staff of MUBS and participated in the study. These were contacted by use of questionnaires and interview guides. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and presented by use of tables, graphs and descriptive statements. Findings revealed that framework contracts involve pre-framework phase of Identify the needs, preparing bid documents, advertising, issuing receiving and opening bids, bid evaluations and awarding the contract to the selected supplier (s). The relationship between call off order planning and procurement performance of MUBS is statistically significant since .000 is less than 0.05(95% confidence level). The results in table 4.12 show that there is a positive relationship between contracts implementation and procurement performance of Makerere University Business School because the two variables are moving in the same direction (Pearson (r) = .576**) sig value P (value) P < 0.05=000, N is the sample size (61) with a sig value .000 meaning that there is a relationship between contracts implementation and procurement performance of Makerere University Business School. To a large extent the procurement performance was still low at MUBS and faced by human resource factors, social, managerial, planning, technology and political factors and the level of funding provided to the institution. there is an effect on Framework Contracts monitoring on Procurement performance of MUBS (r = .68; p = 0.00 < 0.05). The study results therefore show that the Framework Contracts monitoring has a positive effect on Procurement performance though the effect is not significant. Since the Pearson correlation coefficient 0.68 is significant at 0.000 being less than 0.05(alpha level). Basing on the study results obtained using ANOV A, the study concludes that framework contracts greatly influence procurement performance, among other factors. Recommendations of the study included the need for organizations to train staff appointed as framework contract managers, have a procurement manual to refer to when implementing framework contracts, seek accreditation for use of direct procurements in acquiring air ticket services, kitchen & dinning services and small businesses can instead subcontract, MUBS may increase the range of items to be acquired under framework. Also enhance and support procurement research related to framework contract and minimize undue political influence which was affecting procurement performance.Item Freight forwarding outsourcing and supply chain efficiency in Uganda: a case study of Mukwano Industries Ltd.(Kyambogo University [unpublished work], 2014-01) Makumbi, GraceIn support of modern supply chain management approaches, organizations world over are rapidly outsourcing their non-core functions in order to drive sustainable competitive advantage and supply chain efficiency. In Uganda, firms have hurriedly outsourced their freight forwarding function to third parties in the hope of realizing substantial cost savings, improved service levels and competitive advantage, since freight forwarding costs in Uganda significantly account for up to 40% of the value of imports and 7 5% of the value of exports. Much as various literature sources applaud outsourcing, current studies have demonstrated high failure rates on the global and local scene! This study therefore questions whether the hype of firms in Uganda to quickly outsource freight forwarding on the promise of realizing cost savings, improved service quality and delivery precision alone is justified, that is whether freight forwarding outsourcing influences supply chain efficiency, and to what extent it does. A case study design, incorporating questionnaires and interviews, was used to test the variables, wherein 37 samples were drawn, and results analyzed using correlation and regression tools to examine the influence of freight forwarding outsourcing on supply chain efficiency, and the extent to which decision-making, planning and administration influence supply chain efficiency. A 0.731 and 0.822 correlation coefficients were registered against planning and administration respectively, while administration registered the highest significant Beta coefficient of 0.944. It was established from the above that, contrary to expectation, freight forwarding outsourcing may not necessarily result in supply chain efficiency, owing to supplier profit margins, supplier deficiencies in the human resource composition, supplier non-compliance issues, non-aligned working culture and lack of collaboration in the outsourcing relationship. In conclusion, I recommend that outsourcing initiatives should emphasize outsourcing decision-making and planning with a strategic dimension, foster collaboration and win-win approaches in establishing and sustaining outsourcing relationships and putting more emphasis on the administration of the outsourcing relationship, while keeping the human resource factor in mind.Item Horizontal cooperative purchasing in police and prisons• the case of Uganda police force and Uganda prisons service(Kyambogo University[unpublished work], 2015-12) Abyongere, JulietThis research report aimed at examining the extent or horizontal cooperative purchasing performance in the procuring and disposing entities in the forces in Uganda with specific reference to Uganda Police Force and Uganda Prisons Service. In this regard , the specific objectives were to establish the status and form of collaboration between the two entities. identify the benefits of collaboration, examine the relationship between horizontal collaboration and performance of procurement and disposal entities, and how horizontal cooperative purchasing can be improved . Considering the methodology, available literature on horizontal cooperative purchasing has been covered to extract the most plausible information and data related to collaborative purchasing on how it contributes to creating value, while putting into account the performance metrics of cost management, timely delivery, quality management and accountability. However. the above metrics in the study revealed that they could be used as a way forward to act as avenues of improving horizontal cooperative purchasing in the public sector. The findings of the study reveal that there is collaborative purchasing between the two entities especially in terms of preliminary stages of the purchasing process including but not limited to information seeking about the prices and technical specifications or identical items required by the entities. Informal collaborations are prevalent from simple collaborative activities thus requiring minimum level of collaboration that is more short term in nature and simpler in its purpose. The study recommends that to advance public sector se rv1cc delivery and reach long term solutions, collaborative activity needs to be appreciably more strategic in its approach to assure intentional, systematic exclusionary collaboration as its administrators wrestle to achieve the best outcomes.Item Inbound freight management and operational efficiency in the manufacturing industry a case study of roofings rolling mills(Kyambogo University, 2019-10) Sigombe, RichardThe study centered on effect of inbound freight management and operational efficiency using a case study of Roofings Rolling Mills. The study was guided by the three objectives that is; to determine the effect of Carrier Management on operational efficiency, the effect of freight consolidation and optimization on operational efficiency and the effect of strategic partnership on operational efficiency of Roofings Rolling Mills. A cross-sectional survey design were used which enabled the researcher to collect detailed and in-depth data from Roofing Rolling mill staff. The researcher used questionnaire and interview guide to collect data from 32 and 3 respondents respectively. Research findings show that the respondents agreed that carrier management was high at Roofings Rolling Mills and it was revealed that, the extent to which carrier management predicts operational efficiency was low but the relationship between the two variables was statistically significant (R2 value 0.132 (13.2%), and Sig. value 0.041); r=0.465,sig.value=0.000. Findings also show that respondents agreed that freight consolidation and optimization was high at Roofings Rolling Mills and it was revealed that, the extent to which Freight consolidation and optimization predicts operational efficiency was low but the relationship between the two variables was statistically significant (R2 value 0.25(25%), and Sig. value 0.004); r=0.578,sig.value=0.000 and finally findings revealed that strategic partnership was high at Roofings Rolling Mills and it was revealed that, the extent to which strategic partnership predicts operational efficiency was low but the relationship between the two variables was statistically significant(R2 value 0.25(25%), and Sig. value 0.004) r=0.687,sig.value=0.000. In general, the extent to which inbound freight management predicts operational efficiency was low but the relationship between the two variables was statistically significant (R2 value 0.24 (24%), and Sig. value 0.004); r=0.662, sig.value=0.000. The researcher recommends that Roofings Rolling mills should continue adopting and implementing inbound freight management practices to effectively improve on their operational efficiency; the researcher therefore recommends the need for full management support/senior management sponsorship in order to tap more from the inbound freight management practices and a comparative study should be conducted regarding inbound freight management practices in another company with in manufacturing sector that is similar in terms of size in regard to areas for further study.Item Information system managed inventory and organizational performance. The use of information systems in Inventory management is so fundamental since it enhances flexibility and provides competitive advantage due to the ability to respond rapidly to customer requirement. Information system managed inventory such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Material Distribution Planning (MDP) and Material Requirement Planning (MRP), may improve organizational performance in terms of cost management, efficiency, quality control and quick response. With that effect, the researcher was motivated to carry out a research on information system managed inventory and organizational performance taking a case study of Joint Medical Stores in Uganda. However, there were also other objectives and these included the following; to examine the influence of Enterprise Resource Planning system on the performance of the Joint Medical Store; to establish the effect of Material Requirement Planning information system on the performance of the Joint Medical Store and to assess the influence of Distribution Requirement Planning information system on the performance of the Joint Medical Store. The researcher used questionnaires and interviews to obtain data. Results from the questionnaires and interviews were used to draw frequency and percentage tables on the background of the respondents, peoples' attitudes, opinions, habits, education level among other issues in relation to information system managed inventory and organizational performance. Results of the study showed that the information system also can lead to improved service levels due to better coordination or replenishment orders; Enterprise Resource Planning boosts the planning functions. The research was guided by the following objectives, to investigate the effects of information systems infrastructure on customer satisfaction, to establish the influence of information systems knowledge and skills on customer satisfaction and to analyze the effects of information support system on customer satisfaction. A relationship study was done to help the researcher examine the effectiveness of the inf01mation systems managed inventory; both qualitative and quantitative approaches were employed. This design was adopted to help the researcher gather data from a sample of a wider population at a particular time and make interference to a wider population. During this process and the sample size of the study was selected using stratified sampling method. An interview was used as data collection instrument. The findings in the study show that information systems managed inventory techniques like, computers, internet, Electronic Data Interchange, Electronic Funds Transfer, are instrumental in the proper management of an organizations inventory system and they in turn lead to customer satisfaction in an organization. The study concludes that the effect of information systems managed inventory is beneficial to an organization like Century Bottling Company as it enables Century Bottling Company to , share infonnation with its supplies in that note creating reliability of products Cl~stomers, enabling timely and efficient delivery of the century bottling company products in the market. A case study of brookside Limited Uganda(Kyambogo University [unpublished work], 2023-10) Kivumbi, DouglasThe purpose of the study was to examine the association between information technology capabilities in the supply chain and its individual constructs (IT infrastructure, information flow management and IT personnel capability) and organizational performance at Brookside dairy limited in Uganda. “The study focused on organizational performance in terms of operational performance. A cross-sectional survey and descriptive design survey were used to obtain data from 169 out of 300 respondents selected using simple random sampling and purposive sampling”. The study found out that information technology capabilities is positively and significantly related with organizational performance. Additionally, information flow management and IT infrastructure were found to be positively and significantly related with organizational performance expect for IT personnel capability. “As a result, we draw the conclusion that IT capabilities are related to operational performance, and Brookside Ltd. must create initiatives to advance IT capabilities”. This may be done by leveraging IT infrastructure, information flow management, and IT personnel capabilities. “We recommend management of Brookside limited should procure adequate IT hardware and software infrastructure to enable staff operate electronically”. We also recommend the management of Brookside should put in place communication mechanism linked to market information so that the organization makes use of real data when making production decision.
