It further provides for establishing strategic ICT infrastructure and its utilization for both academic and administrative business process improvement.Item Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo: Origins and Development(Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo, 1998) C. B., Adupa; D. K., MulindwaIn this book the diversity of the origins of ITEK is analysed. The decision to start the Teacher Training College at Nyakasura and then transfer it to Mbarara within the space of a year is examined. The Whitehead years at Kyambogo and its interphase with the Grade V course is also analysed to show how the growth of the College into a Diploma awarding institution was from the outset marred with experiments. The struggle for autonomy, began by F.R Poskitt is then taken to greater heights by M.Y.G. Burua. In 1985 the entrance and exit of Makerere Faculty of Education is also subjected to scrutiny. The book then reflects on ITEK since 1985, a challenge that clearly carried with it the dilemma of the contemporary historian because the authors live in that history. Finally, an account of the Home Economics course is considered We hope that this humble contribution to knowledge about ITEK's past. will help to illustrate the point that development of the institution, though tortuous, has been inevitable. Secondly the Institutes history also demonstrates the fact that ITEK has come of age , especially with the merger deliberations.Item Intellectual property policy(Kyambogo University [unpublished work], 2021-11) Kyambogo UniversityKyambogo University is one of the nine public universities established to provide higher education in Uganda. The University was created as a merger of three former institutions of Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK), Uganda Polytechnic, Kyambogo (UPK) and Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE) by Act of parliament instrument No. 37 of 2003. The strategic direction of the university as embodied in its strategic plan 2020/21-2024/2025 is anchored on five (5) strategic focus areas namely, 1) teaching and learning, 2) research, innovations and knowledge production, 3) physical infrastructure, facilities and information and communication technology (ICT) development, 4) institutional development, and 5) strategic marketing. Therefore, in pursuit of its vision, the university is engaged in intellectual inquiry of creating both tangible and intangible assets geared to solving societal problems and bettering humanity in general. Intellectual Property (IP) is intangible assets arising from the outcome of human creativity, innovations, inventions, incubations and entrepreneurship. Exclusive rights are granted in respect of each IP in relation to certain defined categories of industrial, copyright, scientific and cultural creativity. Accordingly, Intellectual Property has become recognised as a consequence of international agreements, creating a more or less internationally harmonised legal regime that seeks to secure investment, technology transfer for innovation and the commercial exploitation of the products of innovations over a limited of time. Intellectual Property law therefore seeks to harmonise the competing interests of the creator’s ownership and control over the creations, innovations, inventions against the public’s rights to access and usage of such works. For example, a copyright specifically permits certain “fair use” of the materials without the need for permission from or payment to the creator. Indeed, the IP law provides profit incentives and ownership protections to the creators of intellectual property while ensuring that the control is not held so tightly to restrict access or prohibits the development of new works that may be inspired by these protected materials. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are crucial in modern businesses serving not only to make research and development attractive but of increasing significance as tradeable assets and security for investment. Unfortunately, the lack of institutional IP policy to harness the exploitation, protection, ownership and commercialisation of the products of research and translations of ideas/innovations into goods and services for which consumers can pay has been a serious challenge for most universities in the sub-Saharan African (SSA) including Kyambogo University. Therefore, to support universities in SSA to institutionalise the management of 2 | P a g e IPA, the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and Africa Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) has put in place infrastructure and guidelines to streamline the exploitation and commercialisation of IP generated by the staff, students and stakeholders at the university instead of only focusing on academic publications per se. One of such infrastructures is the Technology Information Support Centre (TISC) which allows the intending creators/inventors/innovators to search for information related to the IP of interest so that the exclusive rights granted is not contested for infringement and other forms of abuse such as non-disclosure, biopiracy and piracy among others either nationally, regionally or internationally. The rationale for intellectual property policItem Kyambogo University Financial Management Manual 2014 as Amended 2021(Kyambogo University [unpublished work], 2021) Kyambogo UniversityManagement of finances and other resources is fundamental to the success of teaching and research programs in Kyambogo University. The approval of this Policy Manual by the University Council is, therefore, a central step towards good financial management and the achievement of the above core programs. Kyambogo University will continue to make use of the available financial and other resources, to take lead into innovative teaching and research that has historically enabled our graduates excel at employers' premises.This financial management manual will, therefore, be instrumental in guiding the University Council, Management, staff and the Guild to manage programs and projects aimed at developing Kyambogo University. It provides for the roles, mandate and responsibilities of the various University organs and stakeholders in the various financial management functions. Efficient management of those functions will be a key input into the modeling of the kind of graduate desired by the labor, production and entrepreneurship world. I wish to congratulate the University Council, Management, Staff and Students for the effort in the production of this very important policy. I wish to encourage all the University stakeholders to read, uphold, protect, implement and comply with this Policy Manual in order to strengthen financial management system in the University.Item Kyambogo University Gender Policy: approved by the University Council and Commencement(Kyambogo University(Unpublished work), 2014-07-10) Kyambogo University CouncilKyambogo University's target is to be one of the very best universities in Uganda and Africa at large. To reach that target, the knowledge and ambitions of employees and students must be utilised, and their different perspectives must be allowed to help establish a creative study, learning and research environment. Mainstreaming gender issues and promotion of gender equality, equal treatment and diversity will lead to improved quality in the university.Item Policy and Procedures for Revocation of Awards(Kyambogo University(Unpublished work), 2017-01) Kyambogo UnivertyQuality education is the most influential force for alleviating poverty, improving health and livelihoods, increasing prosperity and shaping more inclusive, sustainable and peaceful societies-UNESCO (2015). In the same vein the government of Uganda (GOU) is committed to improving the quality of education, as a key strategy of achieving socio-economic transformation and elimination of abject poverty in the country. The quality of University education is demonstrated by the quality of its graduates. One of the most important functions of a University is the giving of academic awards, attesting to the quality of training received. An academic award is an institution’s “certification to the world at large of the recipient’s educational achievement and the fulfillment of the institution’s standards. Employers rely upon the holding of an academic award in making employment decisions. Because of the importance of academic awards, educational institutions have the right and responsibility to set its standards. Standards may include not only completion of academic programmes, but compliance with conduct standards and fulfillment of financial obligations to the institution.Item Quality Assurance Policy(Kyambogo University(Unpublished work), 2014-11) Kyambogo UniversityGlobally, the resultant impacts of the rapid growth, popularization and internationalization of higher education have raised public interest in the relevance and efficacy of higher education. Consequently, in many countries, the assessment and enhancement of quality have become critical issues for higher education. In Uganda, since 2006 when the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) developed the Quality Assurance Framework for Ugandan Universities, it became mandatory for all higher education institutions to have appropriate and effective internal structures and mechanisms for monitoring quality control procedures in their institutions. To meet this requirement for quality, the term “Quality Assurance” has become indispensable in higher education management. It is within this context that the Quality Assurance Policy for Kyambogo University was developed.Item Research and Innovations Policy(Kyambogo University(Unpublished work), 2014-11) Kyambogo UniversityKyambogo University vision of being a centre of academic and professional excellence can only be realised through building a culture of research. The overall expectation is enhanced research and Innovations visibility at the University.Item Reviewed Kyambogo University Examination Regulations(Kyambogo University(Unpublished work), 2015-10-28) Kyambogo UniversityAt its 2nd session of the 58th meeting of Senate held on 28th October, 2015, Senate reviewed some sections of the examination regulations.Item Rules of Procedure for Kyambogo University Council(Kyambogo University(Unpublished work), 2016-07) Kyambogo University Council CharterKyambogo University is a Public University established in 2003 by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001, as amended in 2003 and 2006. It was specifically established under Statutory Instrument, Number 37 of 2003. Kyambogo University is a body corporate that arose out of the merger of the Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo (ITEK), the Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo, (UPK) and the Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE). Section 38 of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended), creates a University Council. Section 40 (1) makes the University Council the supreme organ of the Public University and as such responsible for the overall administration of the objects and functions of the University. In addition, section 72 empowers the University Council to make statutes consistent with the Act to govern its membership, functions, privileges and procedures. This Charter therefore sets out the standard, procedures and guidelines under which the University Council and its Committees shall perform their duties. The Kyambogo University Council Charter is established to guide the conduct of activities in the Council so that the University’s operations can be managed sensitively and responsibly, whilst giving due consideration to its impact on the environment and society; balancing growth with sustainability. The Charter repeals the Kyambogo University Council Guidelines 2011.
