    School resources and effective implementation of competency-based curriculum in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district, Uganda

    The study aimed to investigate the effect of school resources on the effective implementation of competency-based curriculum in Nansana municipality, Wakiso district, Uganda. The study was guided by three objectives, which were to: examine the effect of physical resources on effective implementation of CBC in secondary schools in Nansana municipality; determine the effect of instructional resources on effective implementation of CBC in secondary schools in Nansana municipality; and establish the effect of human resource capabilities on effective implementation of CBC in secondary schools in Nansana municipality. Using a mixed methods approach, the study adopted convergent parallel design to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. Data were collected from a total of 258 respondents in 12 secondary schools in Nansana Municipality using self-administered questionnaire and interviews. Quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics and correlation, and qualitative data was analysed using content and thematic analysis. Correlation results revealed that physical, instructional, and human resources were positive and significant in effective implementation of competence-based curriculum. Regression results revealed that instructional resources had a positive and significant effect on implementation of competence-based curriculum, human resource capabilities positively and significantly predicted effective implementation of competence-based curriculum. However, physical resources had a negative and insignificant effect on the effective implementation of CBC. It was concluded that instructional resources are imperative for effective implementation of CBC, human resources capabilities are essential for effective implementation of CBC and physical resources is not vital in the effective implementation of CBC. School administrators such as head teachers and other stake holders should provide schools with adequate instructional resources, the Ministry of Education and Sports, head teachers and other stakeholders should provide and encourage high professional development opportunities to teachers in form of in-service trainings to equip them with the required competencies in the implementation of CBC, and the Ministry of Education and Sports, head teachers and other stakeholders should maintain the physical infrastructures of the schools.
