    Implementation leadership, digital citizenship and e-teaching competences of lecturers of Makerere University in Uganda

    This study investigated the influence of implementation leadership on the e-teaching competence of lecturers moderated by digital citizenship in selected schools of Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. Specifically, the study examined whether implementation leadership had a significant influence on e-teaching competences, assessed whether digital citizenship had a significant influence on e-teaching competences of lecturers and determined the moderating effect of digital citizenship on the influence of implementation leadership on e-teaching competences of lecturers at Makerere University. The study adopted a quantitative approach hence, used the correlational design. The data were collected from a sample of 216 lecturers using a self-administered questionnaire. The findings indicated that while implementation leadership did not have a statistically significant direct effect one-teaching competence, digital citizenship had a strong and statistically significant positive impact on e-teaching competence. For the moderating effect of digital citizenship on the influence of implementation leadership on e-teaching competence, the study revealed that it was insignificant. It was concluded that the relationship between implementation leadership and e-teaching competence of lecturers reveals notable variances according to the level of implementation of the different leadership practices, digital citizenship is vital for teaching for competences of lecturers, and digital citizenship whether high or low, does not significantly change the nature or strength of the relationship between implementation leadership and e-teaching competence. Therefore, it was recommended that the university leaders such as vice chancellors and their deputies, deans and heads of departments, should prioritise developing their implementation leadership skills, the development of digital citizenship among academic staff to enhance their e-teaching competences, and should focus on developing strong implementation leadership skills, regardless of the level of digital citizenship among academic staff.
