dc.description.abstract | The study investigated teacher motivation and job performance in secondary schools in
Nakawa Urban Council, Kampala Capital City Authority. The Objectives were, to examine
the effect of career development on the teacher job performance in secondary schools, to
assess the effect of working environment on the teacher job performance in secondary
schools, to determine the extent to which monetary rewards affects the morale to performance in secondary schools in Nakawa Urban Council. The study employed Cross-sectional survey
design. The target population of 325 respondents consisted of: 04 Head teachers, l l2
teachers, 01 Divisional Education Officer (DEO) was used. The study was carried out among
teachers in 4 Universal Secondary Education schools in Nakawa Urban Council of Kampala
Capital City Authority. This study adopted purposive and simple random sampling
techniques in selecting the sample for the study. The main data collection tools included semi
structured questionnaires and interview guide this helped to gather quantitative and
qualitative information and the responses obtained were coded and measured on a five-level
Linkert scale. Data analysis was handled in Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS)
Software package vers ion 21 to generate frequencies, percentages and charts from which
description of the findings was derived. The study revealed that there exists a strong
relationship between; career development, work environment, monetary rewards and teacher
job performance. Three Recommendations were made and these are that: Schools should
organize workshops and seminars for their staff for career development, Schools should also
provide avenues for staff upgrading such as paid study leave, Schools should source for funds
to pay allowances and bonuses to the teachers so as to supplement on the salaries | en_US |
