dc.description.abstractThis study was undertaken to establish the relationship between Motivation and teachers’ performance in rural based Universal Secondary schools in Buyende district. This is because Buyende District USE schools have exhibited poor performance since the formation of the district both at ‘A’ and ‘O’ levels citing inadequate teacher motivation as the major cause. The study was guided by four research objectives and four research questions. The study employed a descriptive cross-sectional survey research design - with quantitative approach. Data was collected from 66 respondents and the data collected was processed using Statistical package for Social Scientists (SPSS), and analyzed using descriptive, correlations and a multiple regression Analysis to determine the pattern of interrelations and robustness among the constructs of motivation variables and their relationship with teachers’ performance. The findings revealed that Motivation is positively associated with teachers’ performance in rural based universal secondary schools in Buyende district. The findings also revealed that allowances, accommodation and achievement have a statistically significant relationship with teachers’ performance in rural based universal secondary schools in Buyende district while responsibility hardly had any relationship with teachers’ performance. It is concluded that motivation accounts for teachers’ performance in rural based universal secondary schools in Buyende district. It is therefore recommended that education policy makers, implementers and managers pay much attention to motivation of teachers in rural based universal secondary schools in Buyende district. This is hoped to improve teachers’ motivation policies and performance in rural based universal secondary schools in Buyende district.en_US
