dc.description.abstractThe study was about "The Effects of teaching in Local Language on the Pupils ' learning process in Primary schools in Kaliro Town Council, Kaliro District". It was based on three objectives: To examine key aspects of the Thematic Curriculum used to enhance pupiIs' learning, To establish the benefits of teaching in local language to the pupils in Kaliro Town Council and To establish the challenges of teaching and learning in Local language in Kaliro Town Council. The study population comprised of teachers, pupils, Head Teachers, School Management Committees, District Education Officer and District Inspector of Schools. Two research instruments- Questionnaires and Interview Guides were used to collect raw data from respondents. Krejce and Morgan ( 1970)'s table guide was used to determine the appropriate sample population (504) for the study. Sampling techniques included Strati lied, simple random and purposive sampling. Raw data was manually organized and presented in frequency distribution tables and graphs. The study established three key aspects of the Thematic Curriculum - Talking and comprehending in local language, writing in Local language, and Reading in local language. Five major benefits of teaching in Local Language were; Acting as a basis for learning other languages, Building strong relationships between teachers and pupils, Promoting effective communication, Promoting Education For All and Promoting African culture. Four challenges were established: It's hard to translate from textbooks, Increase in workloads, Local language not being examined and inadequate reference material sen_US
