dc.description.abstractThis study set out to make a comparative analysis of the effect of school management strategies on teachers' performance in government-aided and private secondary schools in Bukedea District. Specifically, the study was restricted to whether there was a difference in assignment of responsibilities to teachers in government-aided and private secondary schools; whether there is a difference in accountability of teachers in government-aided and private secondary schools; whether there is a difference in supervision of teachers in government aided and private secondary schools; and whether there is a difference in time management for teachers in government-aided and private secondary schools. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design in which structured questionnaires and face to face interviews were used to collect data from 325 respondents. These included headteachers, teachers in both government and private secondary schools under stud y, and District Education Officer in Bukedea District. The sampling of respondents was done mainly using both probabilistic and non-probabilistic sampling techniques, that is, simple random and purposive sampling of respondents. The study found out those teachers in government secondary schools reported significantly higher levels of assignment of responsibilities than those in the private secondary schools. There was an insignificant difference in assignment of responsibilities between the government and private secondary schools. Teachers in government secondary schools reported significantly lower levels of accountability than those in the private secondary schools. There was an insignificant difference in accountability of teachers between the government and private secondary schools. lt was further found out those teachers in private secondary schools reported significantly higher levels of supervision than those in the government-aided secondary schools. However. there was a significant difference in supervision of teachers between the government and private secondary schools. Finally, it was found out those teachers in private secondary schools reported significantly higher levels of time management than those in the government-aided secondary schools. There was a significant difference in time management of teachers in the government and private secondary schools in Bukedea District. The study concluded that there was an insignificant difference in assignment of responsibilities between the government and private secondary schools in Bukedea District. There was also an insignificant difference in accountability by teachers between the government and private secondary schools in Bukedea District. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in supervision of teachers between the government and private secondary schools; and finally there was a significant difference in time management of teachers in the government and private secondary schools in Bukedea District. The study recommended among other things that head teachers in both government aided and private secondary schools should endeavor to assign responsibilities to their teachers as this will enhance performance of teachers build their capacity and ultimately lead to improved student academic performance in the secondary schools in Bukedea District. At the same time, headteachers in the secondary schools in Bukedea should fully maximize the benefits of time management of the teachers by adopting serious administrative reforms or complying with the requisite administrative practices.en_US
