| dc.description.abstract | The main purpose of the study was to document and preserve the meaning of idiomatic phrases associated to the Ganda Drums. The study was guided by the following objectives; to identify the idiomatic phrases associated to the Ganda drums, to establish factors hindering painters from using Idiomatic Phrases associated to the Ganda Drums and to produce Paintings derived from selected idiomatic phrases of the Ganda drums. The research design employed was exploratory and descriptive where a qualitative approach was used to identify the meanings associated with idiomatic phrases of the Ganda Drums. In order to obtain the needed information, photography, observation, studio experimentation, documentary analysis and in-depth Interviews were the methods of data collection used. Key findings of the study were that the Ganda language has a wide and rich pool of idiomatic phrases associated to drums; Secondly, that painting as a mode of communication has been under-utilized as a mode of communication majorly because of lack of knowledge about idioms and lastly, that painting is a potential avenue through which embedded meanings of idiomatic phrases could be communicated as well as preserved. Upon these findings, the study recommended that to have a rich and strong culture in the world today, there is need for cultural preservation and documentation of all hidden messages in form of visual presentations such as painting. Thus, the study would greatly contribute to the reputation of the Ganda culture and also immensely strengthen its international cultural aspect can attract other scholars to have interest in carrying out more studies about Ganda culture and satisfying the global Sustainable Development Goals number 5, 8,10, 11 and 16. | en_US |
